Why this blog?

The main reason I created this blog was to consolidate all the information I obtained before, during, & after my knee surgeries.

Tomorrow marks one week for my knee surgeries. I did a lot of research work and a lot of prep to assure my surgeries went smoothly. As of today, it appears to have been successful.

There is a lot to know in advance, so hopefully this might help some other poor slob come through this relatively unscathed.

There are several types of knee surgeries available, so you need to select the best one for your situation.
My surgery was a  Bilateral partial knee replacement. Which means: bilateral ( They did both knees at the same time ) partial ( only the inside of the knee) Knee replacement ( some parts were removed or drilled and glued to hold new parts).

Only recently have I realized I missed my call in life. I should have been a Orthopedist instead of a general contractor. Both professions use basically the same tools and the sight of blood doesn't bother me at all... Or well...

At the suggestion of my Orthopedist here in Ashland, Oregon, (who no longer does surgeries himself), I had my partial knee surgeries done at Good Samaritan Hospital in Albany, Oregon by Dr Steven Newman.

I had originally consulted another surgeon in my doctor's medical office. Besides having the bedside personality of a famous German named Adolph, ( and I'm not talking meat tenderizer here ), he insisted on doing a full knee replacement  on both knees.

A friend of mine suggested that I talk to this semi-retired doctor for a second opinion. Boy am I glad I did! This became my goal for this surgery. Know why something is being done and keep asking people until you get an answer that makes sense.
